How The Right Keyword Linking Text Helps Affiliates

Writen by Karen Kari

In perfecting your affiliate business model, the devil is in the subtleties. Once you prepared useful content, product reviews, articles and the like, most likely you added banners and PPC ads. Then maybe it became obvious by studying your visitors behavior, that you should add affiliate links to buying opportunities in or around your text. Or you may want to link from an article to additional facts, photos, charts or diagrams.

It's simple to just put in a click here button for the information or product. Even easier to put it next to or at the end of the text. But there are good reasons not to take the easy way out. Statistics have shown that many more people will click on a product name in the context of an article or product review than will click on one beside the review. And still more will click on a link that is descriptive of the product. The same goes for making the effort to obtain additional information – the more specific the link name better. So take the time to name your link teak toy train or tide tables for New London CT, and the results will be worth the effort.

And this is one of the situations where the actions you take for the search engines is the same as the ones you take for the humans reading your copy and buying from your site. Search engine bots operate on changing sets of complicated algorithms, but it is known that they value specificity and the logical and judicious use of keywords. Using them in your links is likely to have the effect of assisting them in digging deeper into your site and seeing more of the content you want to win points for.
